Was a great read.  First read it as a kid 30 years or more ago, have read it several more times since.   Some of the areas described I could figure out.  Its interesting as he trails across Texas and Mexico.

Enjoyed all of Green's books.  Like you, I could not quite figure out some of the places Green described.

Later, I got to be friends with his nephew, Bart Green.  We would go quail hunting in the 80's on a good size ranch (by East Texas Standards, a section) near Cumby NE of Greenville.

One day he started telling Tales about an Uncle, who had left the ranch to him, and Bart had not mentioned his uncles name and finally I said, "I feel like I knew your Uncle too since he must have been Dr Ben K Green, vet."

Sure 'nouf it was.
