Anybody know why---- Bears?
Hmmm....multiple choice--
a) Because they can.
b) Too many hikers.
c) Not enough hikers.
d) No particular reason at all.
e) Both 'b' and 'c'.
f) Returning uphill is longer than hike down.
g) Three hikers had fun.
h) Something else.
Bonus question: How high must the border fence be to prevent tunneling under it? Defend your answer.

Reworking the water line that supplies cattail with the water fall...
Rangers are having a hoedown down there and need to keep the trail clear for the kegs and musical instruments...

i) The bears have eaten too many tourists and have indigestion.
My guess is the momma bear with the cubs has moved downstream from the sewage pond.

Why do the bears get to hog the trail?? Park trails are supposed to be for everyone.

They've got you fooled. Can't have tourists wandering around where they might get hurt. It's the added value of the NPS, where you get someone to make decisions for you even when you don't want it. Sorry, this ride is closed, but the gift shop is still open.

And I thought the idea of a National Park was to allow the city folk to commune with nature, Bears=Nature.

I bet they are really trying to protect the bears instead of the people.

I agree with Oldfatman. If someone happened to get hurt because they surprised momma and her cubs, what would happen to the bear? She would have to be shot, and her cubs would too. This is not just what the NPS would do, but any governing agency. So, one trail is closed for a little while, at least we know that we will have more bears to see in the park. We just don't need to be parading hordes of people through their frequantly visited places.

Basin closed due to increased bear activity
.

Yeah, just wait until the bears figure out how good the food is in the lodge restaurant.

I took my tin foil hat off the other day and heard that a space ship has landed there....they closed it to keep people from seeing it.

The next drought, which could happen any minute now, will rectify the situation.
