BBH,

Thanks!  On it's way.

Someone sent me a horrid joke yesterday that I deleted.  I didn't find
it amusing at all.  Someone was saying that they came across the Al Gore
Jr. highway and decided they would take drive it as much as possible so
that they could generate more hydrocarbon emissions and contribute as
much as they could to the so called "global warming".  They even did an
unnecessary U-turn to drive it some more..  It was all a spoof, but I found
no humor in it.

Personally, I just don't understand why some people just keep denying that
the industrialized world has and are currently altering our climate in drastic ways.
Sure, the climate has changed in the past and will change in the future - ice ages, etc.
but none of these were "man made".  I sometimes wonder if Venus at one time was like
the earth - full of life, but they destroyed their climate and environment all all
became extinct.

I suppose if anyone but Al Gore had "championed" the cause, then they
might "buy into it".  If Ronald Reagan had said that global warming was
real and a threat and was championing it, then others would buy into it.
To me, it's a no brainer.  I just hate to see the arctic melting with the
polar bears now on the endangered species list.

To me, it's time to cut to the chase and do some drastic things.  All that
drilling off-shore and in ANWR are going to do is "ever so slightly" forstall
the issue.  The issue being that it's time to get over our addition to
fossil fuels and to develop other clean resources and methods.

There is a groundswell of opposition growing to wind farms.  I'm sorry, but
there is no perfect solution and to me these look beautiful.  To me it
finally means that we are doing something positive.

Also, if we all just start doing small things it will make a big impact.  Recycling,
cutting back on energy usage, etc.  One of my pet peeves is lights left
on in a room when no one is there.  I was at a Hampton Inn recently and
had  turned off all the lights when I left in the morning.  I also turned up the AC.
When I came back about ten hours later, the cleaning service had left every light
on - incandescent heat producing lamps and had cranked the AC way down.
Talk about a needless waste.   So, I cut them a letter suggesting ways
to make a difference, reduce their costs, etc.

Ok, I'm off my soap box now...

We are on the waiting list for a Prius.  When we get it, we will kiss the old F-150 goodbye at that point...

I drove a Prius for a few days to test some hardware my company is installing in the vehicles.  In town, I averaged 52.8 mpg!  It was weird pulling up to a light and the engine shuts off automatically.

Other than that, it drove like any other car.  You'll enjoy it.

I'm waiting for the technology to move into a real live 4WD vehicle;  quite frankly, I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.   Meantime, I keep the T100, because it's paid for and about the best I can get.  But I drive my Miata here in town.

Switched to flourescent lights over a year ago, then I learned about the mercury hazard.

Tried to get a solar heater a while back;  nonexistent here in CC town.

It ain't easy bein' green.

My favorite anyone-can-do-it energy savers:

A dishwasher that consists of a sink and 2 hands.

An old fashioned clothes line.  Solar power at it's most basic.

Good point about it not being easy trying to be green.  Likely to be changing over the next few years, as it does appear the idea of conservation and green have finally started getting legs of their own and so, there will be a whole host of entrepreneurs out there waiting to catch the wave...

We switched to the CFL's earlier this year.  Found the cheapest place to get them is on Ebay.  Certainly, the mercury is of some concern, but quite frankly, we have all lived around fluorescents for years (at least the long tubular ones) and have made that work, so the CFL's are workable.

I drive a Prius in a CapMetro carpool.  They're great for commuting, not so great for hauling stuff from the lumber yard or nursery, not so great on long road trips with camping gear, etc.  To everything a purpose.   icon_biggrin

The extra cost for a Prius due to high demand would buy a lot of gasoline.  IJS.

I, for one, am waiting for the Diesel/Electric hybrid vehicle from VW......at 69 MPG, it is worth the wait, plus a much cleaner exhaust.

According to Wired Blog Network, the VW:69.9 MPG Diesel Hybrid will give Toyota Prius a run for it's money.

Popular Mechanics posted a video on the introduction of VW's acclaimed TDI Engine.

I am going to wait and see the results, I just don't want to go with the first option and the regret it later in time.

I agree with you Homero. The technology is on the brink of something better and I'm going to wait a bit too. You know, the Jeep with good gas mileage! rolling
