Cool. Hadn't seen that one. I like the 3-D effect showing the ocean depth. We are working to get back on-line with this new provider ..... for now if you use this link SiteMap Gustav or SiteMap Hanna you will be able to "see" a temporary site map ... please understand that NOT all of the previous graphics will be available like they were, until we are totally moved .... again I am very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused ... IX Web Hosting has been very gracious and fast in helping out . |

It looks like it is heading right towards Ray52's house (again!). Hope he has his kayaks ready and can score some more MRE's. Chef and I saw a big convoy of military vehicles headed South yesterday so it looks like the government may actually be ready this time and not spend two weeks arguing about who's fault it is that nobody is doing anything. The Republicans know they can't blow it again this close to election time.. TWWG

Orange and Southeast Texas seem to have dodged the bullet on this one. I yielded to family pressure late Saturday and loaded the dog and the cat and spent the last 2 nights in Katy. I've just arrived home and looks like we got no more than a little rain. Orange itself is still pretty empty but after our experience 3 years ago that's to be expected. I also saw 3 large groups of ambulances traveling west together in Katy, Channelview and Mont Belvieu but thankfully think they made a dry run and were staged somewhere close to here in case they were needed. WWG, I also saw one BBQ stand open as I entered town so I can choose between that and Marie Callender, but alas, no MRE's  |

We battened down the hatches and bugged out Sat 8pm heading for BIL's in San Antonio. Took backroads through Kountze, etc to avoid major evac traffic and did fine all the way. At Cleveland we hit 59 headed to Beltway 8 to skirt Houston. Once on IH10 we saw a couple of convoys of charter buses plus a convoy of ambulances heading east. Made San Antonio by 4am. Had we gone via IH10 al the way we'd still be in that traffic. This site helped us figure route to take www.houstontranstar .orgWe came back home yesterday again skirting Houston. 60 miles west of Houston the traffic was already stop and go so we got out of it and went down backroads to Sealy then back to Beltway 8 to 59 to 105. Most towns were boarded up from Sour lake on to Vidor. Domino's was the only thing open and it was busting at the seams. Even Waffle House was closed! We are not unloading/unboarding until h through z hurricanes/tropical storms are out of the pic. Why bother??? We are very thankful that it wasn't another Rita for our area. I can't begin to explain what I felt as we left our home Saturday. I just knew it would be bad. I have never been more glad to be wrong! |

Guess the answer to that question would be if you live there or have family there. I have neither, to me it's not worth it. The land will continue to sink, creating the need for higher and higher levee walls. |
