The one time I hiked up to Guadalupe Peak and camped over night. That hike up with a heavy pack was not fun. The views were great so it was worth the pain of the hike.

At sundown, we watched as the shadow of GP stretched out over the landscape below. The clouds and moon above made for a nice composition.

Scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Thank you Homero!
If the S Rim trip goes well next month, I'll have to try the same thing with an overnight stay up on Guadalupe Peak. 21 years has elapsed since the last time I did that!!

Bill,

My husband and I climbed Guadalupe Peak in April. It took us 9 hours roundtrip, we were exhausted and we did not carry heavy packs, only water and a few snacks. I think it is incredible you went up with a full pack. The views were terrific, although I was in panic going up, the gravel was loose, I thought for sure I was going to fall off the mountain into oblivium.

Hi Olga!
Yep...that hike up to Guadalupe Peak is a "killer"!!  The only thing I remember about going up, aside from walking up into the clouds, was the hact that every step was a step up. It was like climbing stairs non stop for hours on end.

The views, after a nap, were worth it though!!

Greeting Bill,

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, hiking up hills and mountains is exciting no matter how great the challenge. I fall asleep dreaming about hiking, especially the Appalachian Trail, OMG, I get all these crazy ideas. I often visit Lost Maples State Natural Area. It is about 100 miles from San Antonio that offers plenty of challenge and opportunity to experience the wilderness. My true love is West Texas, my biggest dream is living in the area.

Best Regards, Olga
