Trail Conditions Report
«

I was at Gumo this week and will post a separate message on the trip. For now a quick report on trail conditions.
GUMO has received over 6.5" of rain in the last month. The area is incredibly lush and green. I was surprised that there were lots of muddy patches on the Tejas trail.
The grass and brush is pretty thick. I recommend pants or at a very minimum long socks to protect your legs. To be fair I wore low cut shoes and socks and did not suffer any scratches or cuts.
Ranger Carver said that the Bush Mountain trail over by Cox tank is very over grown and recommended that I not even think about going there. He also said that the grass in the lower portion of the trail connecting Blue Ridge to Marcus was tall but passable.
There was a downed tree near lost Peak. It has been there since at least May. It was there yesterday morning and it was gone yesterday afternoon. Other hikers told me that a 3 man work party hiked up from Pine Springs with axes, cut it up and moved it out of they way. It was a good sized tree and I bet those guys had a long day. I am surprised that they didn't use mules and chain saws.

I did an overnight loop out to blue ridge and back over the fourth of july. I came across several trees that were down, that looked like they had been there for a while. After Bush Mountain, the trail was very over grown for a little stretch. Not a long distance, but what was over grown was really bad. LOTS of little oaks about 5' high covered the trail. Cairns kept me on the trail when I though I had lost it. Not too bad though.
