I am in Palo Duro Canyon State Park RIGHT NOW.  This is a great event for the park.  At a few places in the park you can look back toward Canyon, tx and see a subdivision of houses and a water tower.  It is not the sight I would prefer to have.
The subdivision is on Sunday Canyon drive and the owners have the right to develope it as they see fit, but I would hope the rest of the park perimiter can be saved for generations of folks and wild game.

Is there a spell check on this site?????

Firefox has a spell checker plug-in.  It highlights misspelled words with a red underline and you can add words to the dictionary.   I don't know about MS IE.

A picture of the new addition was planned for this morning, but we have very heavy fog. I will be here through Sunday, so there is a chance for a picture by then.

How exciting that they're adding this ranch to the park! If I ever get to feeling better, I really want to get up there. There was a pretty good article about Palo Duro in the travel section of the NY Times just this past Friday! It has a great photo of the lighthouse and it was almost a full page! It also mentions the museum in Canyon, the Panhandle-Plains historical museum, which has 'quite a range of exhibits:  the headdress of the famous Comanche chief Quanah Parker; a stunning Georgia O'Keefe oil of Palo Duro named "Red Landscape;" and interesting temporary shows like the display of firearms produced by the Colt company that was there this summer'...has anyone been there??? well, for now, I'm just living vicariously through you guys so....ya'll keep on posting your trips.......Randell's PDC trip post was way more interesting/cool/personal than the NYT article and photos even better! however, it's always nice to see beautiful parts of tx in the news... eusa_dance

Here are the new pics of the Fortress Cliffs.
The first is looking up at them from the campground at the bottom.

The second is a view of the ranch from a view point at the Visitor Center

The third is a pic of the information sign at the Visitor Center

The Panhandle Plains Museum in Canyon is interesting to see. It has a pretty good variety of exhibits on the area. The Samuel Colt display they had this summer was also very good.
