That's one heck of a turn - 45 degrees or so?

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if it did that about 12 hrs earlier;  other might not feel that way.

The best dynamical models show a bias to the right. Don't be surprised if the next NHC advisory puts the track farther north...closer to Port O'Conner

That's what I'm hoping.  Meantime, got the plywood all laid out, most of the packing done.    Gas tanks full.  Still got lots to do at the office.  Room rented in Pearsall.  Planning on bugging out Thursday noon, latest.  I've sat in evacuation traffic twice;  once for Allen, then for Brett.  Never again.
Any of ya'll near the coast haven't started, get started.  Like now....

Thanks for that link, Richard. It looked fine to me.
Roy, be careful and grab some good backroad maps. That's the only for sure way to beat the evac traffic. We have taken roads thru watermalon fields and dove hunting country (thank God they didn't aim in our direction! I can see how Cheney shot his hunting buddy)...anyway Farm Roads and County Roads do end up going somewhere eventually;)!

Good luck with Ike. There really isn't any good place for him to hit land.

For those wondering what a GFDL model is:
GFDL: The NWS/Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory model. This model has been the best overall performing model the past three years. An upgrade to the model this spring has produced a 10-12% improvement in track forecasts and a 30% improvement in intensity forecasts when re-run on hurricanes from the 2005 season. The GFDL and HWRF models are the only models that provide specific intensity forecasts of hurricanes. Wunderground.com makes these graphics available on our computer models page. More deatiled GFDL graphics are available at NOAA/NCEP. See the "GHM" model under the heading, Hurricane Graphics.

Trail? What trail?

Guess there is a bright side to any act of nature.

We've already had the wettest Aug on record in Okla City.  Looks like thanks to Ike, we'll also set a record for Sept.  It was really strange seeing the normally dry Wichita Mountains awash in wildflowers and greenery in August!

Galveston has issued a voluntary evacuation notice for ares subject to flooding due to predicted high tides. Rumor has it that Johnson Space Center will shut down as a precaution on Friday, but that decision won't be made until tomorrow at the earliest. My wife's ready to hit the road to Austin now. Personally, I don't think we're going to get much more than a bunch of rain around here. If we lived in Freeport, we'd already be outta there.

Looks like Lowell is trending more northward towards NM.
