...on the west side of the park??

I'd sure like to take a shower after the S Rim overnight expedition. With RGV down for the count, what other options are there? Stillwell's seems too far to go just for a shower so I was thinking maybe something on the west side?
  Thanks!

I think your only option is going to be Big Bend Motor Inn in Study Butte.  They have coin operated showers in the back of the main building that are available for those who camp there.  I have asked if anyone can come and use them and they said yes.  I have no idea how clean they are but they are probably better than nothing.  I'll be using them next time I am in Big Bend since RGV will probably be out for months.

Big Bend Motor Inn is the place.  The showers are clean, have plenty of pressure and hot water, and they cost two dollars for about 5 or 6 minutes (if I remember correctly).

Too bad when they remodeled PJ they didn't put in some showers.  That's a long drive with a lot of petrol and wasting valuable "on the ground" time in Big Bend - where every minute on the ground needs to be cherished.   It's like when "we" walked on the moon - every minute was planned for.    I still vote for ripping out the bathtubs at the lodge, put in low water use showers, and also install some low water use showers up in the Basin area.

I'll fourth that.

BBMI has good showers (much cleaner than RGV). I think it's $2.00 for 5 minutes.

Thinking way back now....didn't La Kiva once have pay showers? I don't see anything on their web site about showers so I'm assuming they no longer offer that service?

There were showers adjacent to LaKiva as part of the campground adjacent to it.  Just don't leave anything of value in the bed of your truck (lost an icechest once)(I hope they ate the chicken and got sick).  I don't recall the name of the campground, just that there was some decent birding around and about the cottonwoods next to Terlingua Creek.

What are the rules on using a camp shower such as a solar shower in the Chisos campground?

That was it Boojum1!
I remember a couple of spring break trips where the Basin was full by late afternoon when we arrived and we spent a short night in that campground before going back at first light to try to snag a spot. I haven't been to La Kiva in 15 years or more. I'm amazed that it's still hanging on!

I've been wondering that myself. Too bad there aren't any park rangers around to answer this...  eusa_whistle

The Superintendent's Compendium has this blurb which might apply:
SECTION 2.14: SANITATION AND REFUSE.
(a)(1).
In campgrounds with service sinks, disposing or dumping dish water and other gray water is prohibited except in the service sinks.

I guess the shower runoff is considered "gray water". I believe they prohibit bathing in the restrooms in the campground. So, to stay in the rules, you'd have to bring in your own water, collect the runoff, and then dump it in the service sink.

Go to the head of the class, take $20 out of petty cash, and get you some of those burritos you like for lunch...

White Water=potable water or drinking water
Gray/Grey Water/non-potable=water that results from washing - laundry, bathing, washing, etc.
Black Water=sewage water
Green Water=rain water

So if I bring my own water, which would be easy enough to do, collect the runoff, slightly harder and dispose of it properly.  It might be possibly somewhat legal.  The feds and there rules are killing me.  I think they need to install showers at all the main campgrounds.
