T-Minus 30 Minutes!!
«
on:

The PT is loaded except for the very last things to go in. Gassed up last night. Packed most of the main stuff yesterday. I need to make a stop for ice and then it's on to BB! Weather check looks like it will be glorious for the whole week I'm out there!!
I'll be off the grid until next Friday evening. Or maybe I can use the WiFi at the lodge for a quick report if something warrants. Otherwise, I'll have pics (just for you Homero!) and a report next weekend.

I survived...just barely! S Rim wore me out!!
Pretty much a run-of-the-mill BB trip. No major animal sightings.
Lots of haze until something blew through Monday noght and it got better after that. Of course Monday was the night I was up on the rim so the sunset pics are pretty hazed out. I wish I had waited one day before going up...would have been spectacular Tuesday evening for sunset.
Still, it was good to get out there after a year away. Official trip report, with a few photos, to be submitted later this weekend. Still have to unpack tomorrow. I'll probably have to take the power washer to the front of the car to get all of the snout butterfly guts off of it. There were millions of them all the way out and back. Lots of Monarchs heading south too.
More later...

Welcome back! Glad you survived. When you put the trip report together, please post a bit about your gear, too! Pack, shoes, anything else you got... I'd like to know about it!
There's a place on Bandera Road by Tezel or Grissom (can never remember what its name is) that will wash your car for $5, but they also have bug juice that knocks off the butterflies pretty easily... That is like $2 more. I did it after returning from the bend a couple of weekends ago, and it was VERY cool to get the car pretty much spotless w/out much effort and while spending almost as much as I might have in quarters considering the amount of butterfly casualties on the front of my ride.

Trick I learned to make cleaning the front of the car pretty painless is to put a fresh coat of wax/polish on the front bumper/hood/side view mirrors of my car before making the trip. The bug splatters slide right off with just a garden hose. I don't think I've ever used a power washer on my baby other than in the winter time to rinse the salt from the undercarriage.

.... so the sunset pics are pretty hazed out.
I'm sorry to hear that Bill
, I was checking the area web cams and I was worried that you'd be in a lot of haze. The basin
camera has been stuck a while so I wasn't sure. Sometimes haze doesn't have as much effect on
night sky shots, so I'm hoping you'll be able to treat us with a few of those. I look forward to your report.
Well I was looking forward to your report, I just read it after I posted this. I should have checked first before posting
.
