We are considering going to Big Bend for the first time and spending Thanksgiving week there. We have two girls...9 and 12. Good or bad idea? Terry. Also, looking for a good place to stay while we are there.

Terry, it's always a good idea.  Thanksgiving is one of the two busiest times of year but compared to anywhere else it's no big deal.  Do you camp?  Your post suggests you want a room.  I would look for a place to stay in Study Butte or Terlingua.  Chances are very slim that you can get a room or cabin in the basin but you might want to check and then check over and over again in order to catch a cancellation.

we had a small famly outing a few years back during thanksgiving and my neice and nephew were younger than your 2. they did ok as long as we kept them on the published short trails. they did get board often out on the trails, but over all they loved it. especially seeing deer in the basin.

Your biggest issue will be lodging. I'd imagine the Lodge is already booked solid. Keep calling as they often have cancellations as well as held rooms may be released. Check the motels in Study Butte as well.
