For some reason, that pano reminds me of Mt. Rushmore without the sculpture.  Hope noone gets any ideas.

Great shots! Bummer about the hazy-ness, but then you can always make some neat abstract photos with it.

SW3 was pretty good! Not right on the rim but a decent view from the site and a great view (Thanks tj!) from a place nearby.

icon_wink Glad you found it. I really enjoyed seeing your pics from there - that's a great spot. The haze is quite bad, but you got some interesting views with all the layers in the distance. There was a set of cooking pans and pots in the bear box when I was there +1 years ago - are they still there?

It's definitely a long haul up there. Glad you made it there and back safely.

I think your first what is it  photo is Antelope Horn Milkweed,  Asclepias viridis.  Someone may correct me.  It seems to be in the going to seed stage.  BTW, it is a monarch host plant.

Hi Homero!
Glad you liked the pics! I took them just for you!!  icon_wink

I didn't hit any canyons this trip so I didn't encounter any groups of monarchs. There were quite a few flying south. I wonder if they are heading south early this year. Maybe the peak comes later because the groups I saw last year were there in October?

Hi tj!
Thanks again for the location tip. As tired as I was after the trip up, it helped to know that there was a good vantage nearby.

Nothing in any of the three bear boxes at SW3. Guess someone carried them back down...hopefully.

Hi sleepy!
Thanks for the plant ID! The pods were quite big...3" or so...and I'd never seen anything like them in BB. I learn something new every time I'm out there!!

SA Bill,

Did you return to the Basin via LM trail?

Do you know if Boot Spring was pushing out any water?

Thanks

Sorry badknees.
I went up and back down via LM. I'd be surprised if there wasn't water at Boot Spring though. It was very obvious that there has been a lot of rain in the Chisos this year. Maybe someone else can confirm water in BS.

  Bill,

Those are very nice pictures.  eusa_clap I wasn't expecting pictures of that quality with the haze that I was seeing on the webcam
     while you were there.
Did you use any filters for the sunset shots?

Hi fm!
Thanks!
Yes...it was pretty hazy.
No filters...just lots of different exposures to get the look I wanted.
