I am planning a trip in a couple of weeks, and was wondering what the price of gas is out that way.  I will probaly be staying in the basin and spending some time in Study Butte and Terlingua.

Try some of the links listed here:
This is rarely up to date, but MSN has gas prices for Fort Stockton, Alpine and Lajitas / Study Butte

http://www.gasbuddy.com/ doesn't have a lot of current listings for gas in the area. :(
They have listings for Alpine, Fort Stockton, Marfa and Presidio but they often don't show any prices.  Maybe if we can get a local out there to start submitting regular price reports....

Maybe some locals or others who've been out lately can chime in with the latest...

Rule of thumb, take whatever price you are currently paying and add .20 - .40 per gallon.

FINA
BIG BEND MOTOR INN
HIGHWAY 118 & 170
TERLINGUA, TX 79852
$2.919 as of 10/23/08*

Good to see it below $3 out there.
Fort Stockton has a few stations at $2.899

If you're gonna use that site, you have to start at zip 79834 and zoom in a few levels before it'll show you anything.

I'm sure it's changed since our trip last week but we went via Fort Stockton and Marathon and the gas in Marathon was nearly $4.00.  We had planned on filling up there before going into the park because we thought it would be cheaper but it wasn't even close.  Every other town around (FS, Alpine, even in the park) was mid 3.00's

Marathon's been kinda funky that way the past few years. Guess they think they can get away with it. Personally, I'd fill up in Fort Stockton or maybe at the Stillwell store.

Or in Sanderson for those of us who like the 90 route in to BBNP.  And I buy it everytime I am in the park prior to going home.  Its nice to just get in and go.  And not have to stop on the way home. I saw $2.17 today in Austin, and last night on the news they had $2.09.

We paid $2.51 at the Big Bend Motor Inn in Study Butte yesterday.

It used to be cheaper at the Study Butte Store but I don't believe that's the case any more . . .

Today on KXAN here in Austin, they reported the cheapest gas in the state was $1.86 in Laredo and $3.39 in Junction.  Saw $2.17 at Wal Mart for my once a year trip with my Wife.
