And in your first post you are 103% correct!  Congratulations.
I wish TVLAND would do reruns of Wiseguy...  Great show.

From Glaciernp to the wind rivers in wyo to the Ruins of bandelier and rocky mtn natl park to Big bend I have yet to suffer any problems regarding my feet when wearing
my cHACOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they have the best support for my feet...better than my old hiking boots..

my toes do get cold at times though............ : )

I learned the inherent dangers of wearing cheap hiking boots with mesh over the toes while bushwacking around up on the South Rim.  I didn't see that cactus spine go into my big toe, but I sure did feel it!    Made the hike out the next morning all that more memorable.

My father in law gave me a pair of Cabelas Kangeroo skin boots for Christmas a few years back.  Very nice and light.  Lasted one trip of BiBe/del Carmens cross-country hiking. The front of the boot was cut to hell.

One should wear a good pair of solid leather hiking boots.  A "medium weight" should be the boot's minimum rating.  They will last for several years instead of one trip or less.  It's a bummer when your boot falls apart on the trail especially when you just got it broken in!

And always check the condition of your boots before heading out into the middle of all the nasty, sharp, pointy stuff!  Especially the non-leather components.

Note: these weren't the cheap boots mentioned above.  These were the $120 Vasque Clarion Gore-Tex boots, but they were about 10 years old.

I've had one flapping sole.  Always, always, always have duct tape in someone's pack!  Roll some onto a pen.  You can fix and take notes at the same time.

Must admit I didn't have any.

Had to sole flap all the way back to the truck!

P.S. The new Kangaroo boots weren't cheap either!

Duct Tape is amazing!

If you don't want to carry a big role of duct tape, get a small one or get a pencil and wrap some duct tape around it from a big roll.
