Title: changes at Chisos Lodge/Study Butte/Ghost town/Ft Davis?
Post by: blubear on October 21, 2014, 03:00:30 PM
We haven't been to BB in 3 years and are thinking of going again soon.
Would anyone care to comment on any changes in the lodging or food possibilities at Chisos Lodge/Study Butte/Ghost town/Ft Davis? Or any other comments if you've been to those places lately. Thanks!

The Chisos lodge has the best food in the park.   :eusa_dance:

It has come back from a few years ago.  5-6 years ago the hamburger was pretty good.  Then it went through a slump for a few years.  Now, I believe the food has improved to the best it has ever been.  Granted, we haven't been to BB since before this summer.

Can't speak for the other places outside the park.  Too far to drive, and too "busy" hiking to take that much time just to eat.

Johnny Bs in Marathon is the best food anywhere near the park.  Sadly, haven't found anything good around terlingua/Sturdy Butt.  The Lodge is better than the offerings over there.

Coffee y Poco Mas and Starlight are both good options in the ghost town for lunch and dinner respectively. Rio Bravo has about the best lunch in Study Butte. Rick's Grocery (aka Cottonwood) is an excellent stop for high quality groceries and surely beats the middling options of potted meat and white bread one finds at the Motor Inn Store.

Had breakfast burritos at the Chili Pepper in Study Butte last week on the way fro Bi Be to GuMo, and they were really good. Staff was pleasant as well.

The High Sierra Bar and Grill has some excellent food IMO.
