COWHEAD RANCH

Hiya guys
Still in my major planning stages for my trip next spring and am looking at accommodation in the area.
I have been trying to find details of COWHEAD RANCH - but it appears the website is either down or no more in existence.
Can anyone advise as it seems that they may have exactly what I am after for a few days stay, but I now fear the worse
Or if anyone else has suggestions for budget accommodation, I'd love to hear from you.  Otherwise it may well be a case of a tent!!! LOL

AS for car rentals  would a Ford Escape  or similar be suitable or a regular Jeep or should I aim higher  eg a Cherokee - sorry guys, not too familiar with US motors!

Regarding accommodations, I wil let others address that since I almost always sleep on the ground.  I know there have been several threads on this topic so you might try the Search feature at the upper right on the Home Page.  I don't recall anything about Cowhead Ranch in particular.

Regarding a vehicle, it depends on where you want to go.  A basic front wheel drive sedan will get you to most places, including some of the dirt roads.  I have personally driven Glenn Springs Road and Maverick Road in a Toyota Camry, for example.  However, a higher clearance vehicle will likely be necessary on sections of some of the dirt roads, such as River Road, the lower third of Old Ore Road, a few of the desert campsites, and to the trailheads for Juniper and Pine Canyons.  Four wheel drive is usually not necessary anywhere except, perhaps, on Black Gap Road, a section that can be easily avoided if you don't have four wheel drive.  Unless it's been raining (Ha!), in which case all of the dirt roads can become impassable without four wheel drive (or even with).

the Ford Escape will do fine for most all the dirt roads like Old Maverick Road, Old Ore Road, Paint Gap Hills Road, Grapevine Hills road, the Road to Glenn Spring and Pine Canyon, to Mariscal Mine and even most of the River Road east.

However, depending on rain fall will change that. There has been no rain since September 2010, but im sure it will rain between now and next spring, so always check ahead on recent rain and road conditions prior to making car reservations.

there are many places to stay, there is lodging in the park, but that usually fills up WAY in advance for the Spring time.

If you're looking for the ritz, it's not. 
But nothing's fancy in Terllingua area.
