Terlingua is a good central location to stay for the park and rafting etc.  I have no idea about motels as we very rarely stay in one.  I have no idea about the Chisos Mining Company.

Do you mean the Chisos Mining Company?  If so, then it's right outside the park in Study Butte/Terlingua.  Haven't stayed there myself, but as long as you're ok with "funky", you'll be fine.

I stayed at the Chiso Mining Co., also known as the Easter Egg in April.  It is an older motel, but Clean.  Very basic.  I had a no TV room, so it was cheaper than a TV room.  Kathy's Kosmic Kowgirl Kafe is next door (the pink trailer) and is suppose to be a great place for breakfast.

Also, if you are taking any guided river trips, you are very close to the outfitters.

Enjoy the park, safe travels,

If you haven't already got reservations for River Rafting you should think about doing it well before your trip.  I recommend calling Jan at Big Bend River Tours they have a toll free number and are located right in Terlingua.  I did Colorado Canyon with them last year and it was great fun.   Santa Elena Canyon is better but is often off-limits due to low water levels.   Tell them the Wild West Guy from BigBendChat sent you and Jan might give you a discount.   Don't forget it is considered "bad form" not to tip the guide, especially if you jump in the water and get towed behind the raft with a rope... You might consider Wild Horse Station.  It's just a couple of miles north of Study Butte.  They have several trailers they rent as "cabins", might be nice to have more room with that many people;  as well as kitchen facilities.  I've stayed there a couple of times and can recommend it.

Fall 2006 I was on sabbatical leave from Collin County Community College, and lived in Terlingua Ghost Town.  Each morning I would get up early have have breakfast with Kathy at the Kosmic Kowgirl Kafe, in late Oct--December she made a "fire" out front.  The food was great.  With this being said, each year I take a group of students to Terlingua and we stay at the Chiso Mining Co. (aka Easter Egg), the rooms are clean and reasonably priced.

Have a great adventure.

Yep, pretty nice place in terms of convenience and amenities, even if the facilities are somewhat worn. Owner is very friendly. I'll stay there again.

Chisos Mining Co., like others said here is a great base camp to go a lot of places. We stayed there in 2006 for a couple of nights and it was just fine. I must admit it was secondary to not getting in to Indian Lodge.......
