We stayed at the Outback Oasis for one night on our way into Big Bend from San Antonio. San Antonio isn't too far but we were taking the trip easy. No rush. We had a week to play.

The Outback wasn't fancy but it was clean, quiet, comfortable and reasonable (about $35 or so). Bed was queen sized and tv with internet was an unexpected perk. Great for making sure what weather we were in far. Microwave and small fridge and a coffee pot. Also very large ice machine near office. No charge to fill ice chest.

Dairy King down the road a short ways served a great chicken fried steak. Nice people. Quiet town.

Don't forget about the cool little snake room in the main office. Very neat to check out.

I stayed there this past Sunday and I was offered small and frugal or a larger room.  I took the larger room, which was newly remodeled, and only $50, which is dirt cheap in my opinion.  The room was very clean, bed linens smelled fresh, towels were fluffy and new.  I would most definitely stay there again.

I ate breakfast at Mi Tierra Mexicana (432-345-2266), a mom and pop place that has excellent breakfast burritos for only $2.25 each.

Here are photos of my room and the hotel itself:

Snakes in the office?!  icon_eek I'm kinda glad I didn't know that! But it would have been theraupeutic for me, I suppose. Snakes give me the willies but they are fascinating creatures.

We must have had the frugal room. It looked pretty much the same as yours only smaller and we didn't have the table and two chairs, or the armoir. We'll stay there again if needed and next time I'll ask about the snakes.

Randell , I think they gave you the Presidential Suite;  I've stayed there a couple of times and the rooms were nice, but small.

*I know this is an oldie but I'm a newbie and i'm having fun reading all of these posts*. This is good to know as we almost got 'stuck' there on this last trip after getting grounded unexpectedly in del rio w/ car trouble for about 6 hours....sanderson has always seemed so mysterious for some reason...i'd love a good excuse to stay there and poke around, look at the rocks, eat some good mom and pop mexican food...it's good to know that there's a good place to stay for future planning.....we have stayed at the fort in brackettville as a 1/2 way point so we could enjoy swimming there and i love that place. it's reasonable, interesting and the water is very therapeutic....
