get some pics tue morning

If you are out that way, be sure to snap some pics of the "park closed" signs and all the gates being closed and padlocked.  i wonder if 118 and 385 will be chained off as well?  Glad i don' have a trip planned to BIBE or any other national park in the coming weeks or months, until Nov that is.

Serious, if you are out that way, take pics for me, please...  Check out the signs on the doors, etc. .   Would be some pretty neat pics of a totally desolated park.

BTW I am not posting this as a political discourse or discussion, I have purposely not mentioned anything about it, simply put, I want to see pictures of a National Park being closed.

That's problematic for most of us.  Why go if it is closed?  When closed in 1995 we went to Lincoln Nat'l Forest instead and boy was it cold and windy.  The 1995 shutdown ended our trips up into the del Carmens and Maderas.

true, but if you are already out that way or work or live out there, then wouldnt be much of a problem.

if i was out that way going to bgwma or bbrsp, i sure would go by for a photo op.

I'm planning a trip for the third week of November myself.  With all of the political standoff-ing going on that may lead to this government shutdown, I'm now realizing the bigger issue I may face is that the passport application approval folks are going to have suspended activities if Tuesday's gonna go the way it's looking it will.  I didn't get my application until the Thursday before this past one and I'm still not showing up online...  :banghead:

that is one thing i would not have delayed getting done is it too late to do the expedite thing, at a premium?

i always travel on a passport, irrigardless where i am flying to.  seems easier on the folks handling security plus with the nature of my work never know when i will get called out of the country

You make a good point about possible expediting after submission Shane; I will probably look into this.  All persons I'd spoken with said that they've been pretty steady with 4 week turnarounds on passport apps lately, so I went with the hearsay.  Hmm.

The biggest thing is even if all else fails and I don't have a passport in hand on Nov 19, there's always future trips that can and will include Boquillas.  The thing is, this is gonna be a BIG trip as it is, for the longtime girlfriend and fellow Bender and I...Boquillas would just make it even a little more special, but either way it should be highly memorable  :crossedfingers:

SUPPOSEDLY the passport process won't close down unless the office is housed within a federal building.  It still makes money.

So we can't go into the park at all if it shuts down?

Good question.  Something I read implied that only overnights would be off limits.
Wake me when it's time to go.

I kind of doubt the entrances at highways 118 and 385 will be closed. Perhaps just day use with no services?

I hope this thing gets ironed out quick.  I have been planning this next hike for almost 2 years now, and, uh-hem, I need some insurance I can afford, small biz guy and all...

This trivial political funk I am in will be a good spring board into the Quemada.
Ah Big Bend, we will soon return to reacquaint ourselves in our ritual of blood, exhaustion and dehydration. How can we resist the temptation to strip ourselves of the maladies of civilization?

I would be surprised if they don't close off the entrances. This is the NPS, after all, not the Forest Service.
Dang, I almost sound like Presidio...
