Thanks for keeping us informed on all the things going on......I like the idea of being able to carry your consealed handgun on river trips, but I would not want to spend the night camping on the Mexico side of the Rio Grande,  I don't know what would happen,  If you were check by the Mexican government and found to have a firearm, I know Mexico is strict on firearms.......You might wind up in Jail......Benny

Not even a bullet
they will even arrest you for just one bullet a cop down in Rio Grande close to Laredo Tx was caught with one 22 bullet found in his personal car as he was crossing the border was jailed for 4 months they did finally let him go, but with only the local state rep. from that area helped him get back to the states. Simple if you stay on the mexican side just dig a hole and hide it for the night.

Let me tell you, we don't need one more bullet here.

Simple answer would be don't visit Mexico for any reason, then you don't have to worry about your safety. :willynilly: :willynilly:

Here is how we handle it: http://www.tooshocking.com/videos/6779/So_Super_Cool

Toms quote said it: "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." -Thomas Jefferson, quoting  Cesare Beccaria.

Well, anywho....President Obama should be signing this bill this afternoon....a nice mark in his belt, if you ask me.  The so called "credit card bill of rights" and the upholding of State's Rights is a victory for the administration and this congress.

With all apologies to our friend Homero - although he may just agree! - I was told once that being a cop in Mexico is the ultimate entrepreneurial endeavor.

I had a friend that carried bullets into Mexico.  He was in jail for 3 days.  He paid a "policeman" $10k to get out.
He swore he would never go to Mexico again.  In 2000 though, we went to BB together and I convinced him Santa Elena would be ok to visit...back when you could walk across right there... he went but he looked over his shoulder the entire time we were there.

--

On a related note...I sure do miss the days of Boquillas.

If you are a citizen of Mexico, can you own a firearm?  I just don't feel comfortable in Mexico anymore.  I use to go into Mexico all the time, but not anymore.  I don't even feel safe camping on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande River when we go on our river trips.   :eusa_think:
