Interesting. In IE I get the Feb 10th report but in Chrome I get Feb 12th. You might want to clear your cookies.

However, more importantly, I noticed that the rainfall totals for the Basin and PJ jumped up from 1/25 to 1/26 without any recorded daily rainfall. Checking the automated Weather station link on the BIBE site, it only shows rainfall at 2.32 inches for the year as opposed the 4.23 that it shows on today's Daily Report. I don't see any recorded rainfall for 1/25 to account for this jump.

Even today's report is messed up. The report from 2/10 shows a annual total of 4.23 inches for the Basin, but today's report still shows the same total even though they reported .15 inches yesterday. Same issue with the PJ numbers.

Jan 25th Daily Report
Jan 26th Daily Report

I don't find these links to the last two days, the last link in this format is Feb 10th.

I have seen the wrong date come up also, but a browser refresh (Ctrl-R) usually does the trick for me.

I, too, think the cum. rainfall numbers are way off. On the totals, I believe the daily reports are hand entered daily using a Word document. One day about 2 months back, they accidentally uploaded the Word file itself instead of a PDF made from it. I have a copy somewhere at home. Hence, if one ranger/volunteer enters a wrong cumulative, then the next day the next person may just be adding onto it, and so the error accumulates.

Nope, even refreshing it still shows the 25th.

Yeah I happened to open it the day they up loaded the whole word document.  At least some things are still old school out there.

OK so Ctrl + R got it on the park report page not the PDF page.  My old non-computer savvy brain.  Thanks.

Yeah those rainfall amounts look suspect.  The running total on the Mesowest station is 2.46 for PJ.

What ever the exact total it has been a much wetter winter than normal and a good start for the year.   :celebrate:

We have indeed had a wet winter and the wildflower bloom should be all the better for it. I know that we have a pretty well set protocol for collecting weather data at BWVC and that entails contacting BIBE every morning for the Daily Report. Sure there are occasional errors, but they are not as frequent as you might suspect. It's not rocket surgery.

Current Park Conditions:

High clearance 4x4 vehicles are required on Old Maverick Road and River Road and recommended on all backcountry roads. Expect wet and muddy conditions on all backcountry roads.

Extreme water shortage continues throughout the park. Visitors are limited to 5 gallons per day and are encouraged to conserve further when possible.

There is a certain contradiction/irony here.  :eusa_think:  So which way is it?  :eusa_doh:

This is the sort of thing that is done to cover all the possibilities.

According to a ranger I talked to in March the water shortage is being caused by an aquifer problem, not a mechanical problem. The water level in the aquifer is drawing down.
As I understand it, there is more than one type of aquifer - some recharge , some don't. If they are tapped in to one that doesn't recharge they may need to drill a new or deeper well, maybe even at a different, more remote location requiring additional money for pipeline(s) and pump(s).
Its should be a fixable problem but it requires money.

BK,

You could do us all a favor by prodding them a little about this. There's a button labeled "Contact Us" on the front page of the official park site.

Here's the link: http://www.nps.gov/bibe/contacts.htm

Good morning:

The website system out of Washington, DC, has been undergoing revisions, conversions, and updates for about a month.  During that time the seven servers in DC have been experiencing sporadic updating of data entered by the parks.

We hope this problem will be resolved soon.  We have no control over the data once we post it to the system.

You can go to the website for Desert Sports [google for their website address] to find a current posting.

Please contact me again if I can be of further assistance.
