Camping at Lake Texana
« on: April 21, 2008, 10:25:02 AM »
We went for a camping trip at Lake Texana this past weekend.  Here are a few photos.  I must be doing something right because when I pick my boys up from day care and informed them that we were going camping, they both get really excited.  When we arrived at the campground, Bryson started clapping and saying "yeah, camp!".  We camped 2 nights and did all the fun stuff: hike, canoe, kill fire-ants with boiling water, pick flowers, fish (no luck), have a huge campfire, scare off a racoon that tried to watch the campfire with us, chase deer through the woods (ok, it was just the kids that did this), throw rocks in the lake, chase armadillos trying to get photos, saw an alligator, throw rocks in the bushes to make the kids think something was there (they thought it was a wolf), fondle skulls of dead animals at the nature center, and little red wagon rides.  The weather was perfect for camping.

We kept hearing these bullfrogs and finally saw one.

Herbertias were all over the place.  My 2 year old kept finding things he thought were interesting, pulling me over and pointing while saying "camera".

I go camping/padling at Lake Texana a couple of times a year and love the place. There's a lot to do there and lots of deer. Some times during the winter, there are only a few campers in the whole park. The kids look like they had a great time!

Hi Randell!
Missed this post when you first put it up there.  Lake Texana is a nice lake and state park.  Went there several times for just day trips while we lived in Victoria (it is only about 40 minutes from Victoria).  If you ever get a chance, head a bit further west to Goliad State Park.  Nice camping; lots of history and several good hiking trails.
