Rocky Mt. National Park 7-19
« on: August 08, 2019, 07:58:18 PM »
We took a couple of weeks in July to drive to Estes Park and RMNP for an extended family vacation. We haven't been there in 4 or 5 years and it is even more crowded than in the past. Due to the size and ages of our group (and the condition of my hip) we were limited to shorter 4 - 5 mile (rt) type hikes. Even with the crowds, if you got going early enough (think 7 am at the latest) you could manage your hike, ie. park at the trail head or the shuttle lot . Thats right, if you slept in even the shuttle couldn't bail you out. We learned on our last trip that after Labor Day is the time to go - we relearned it on this trip. Having said all that it is still a favorite with us, beautiful sights, lots of birds and animals, and nice cool temps.
This first  slideshow is of the birds I was able to catch. As always, any help with IDs is appreciated. :

It has been many years since I have been to Estes Park. Thanks for the sharing and thanks for the warning!

+1, been a long time since I was there.  I think just about every park is now better after Labor day.  Some great hummingbird shots!

Lots of cool photos. Itís going to take awhile to go through all of the birds, but it looks like the ids are pretty straight forward!

Yeah, nothing exotic but mostly a different set of birds from what I'm used to seeing. The Lincoln vs. Song Sparrow deserves a look. I didn't catch the Western Tanager in good light (except for the one in the visitor center ! )
