Arkansas New Years
« on: January 01, 2008, 09:56:53 PM »
Happy New Year!  I just got back from a family getaway to Arkansas.  We stayed in a cabin near Hot Springs at Lake Catherine State Park.  We did a gorgeous two mile trail twice that followed a stream with many little waterfalls and one big waterfall (12 ft) .  On another day the five ladies in our group went to Hot Spring while the guys went for a 170 mile/6 hour scenic drive to look at some more waterfalls.  In typical guy-trip fashion, we packed six adult men and my two kids in my van and took off with nothing but trail mix and water.  Great fun.

My son and I looking over a rock outcropping on the Falls Creek trail at the State Park.

My two year old and I actually took an unintended swim in this location.  I was trying to hold him and hop to another rock for a better angle when he leaned forward and we both went in.  Wasn't deep or fast but it was cold!

Back in my other life, I got to go to Falls Creek Falls a few times and found it to be a very nice area.  I recommend it for a great change of scenery from my favorite-the desert

Randell, that's a great group shot of your family.  Perhaps a Christmas Card for 2008?

Great pics Randell - looks like y'all had a swell time. But I'm not sure if trail mix and WATER is the right combination of items to qualify a drive as a "typical guy-trip."  :icon_wink:

Nice pics.  In a time of convuluted priorities with a former career, I spent some time at the Lake Catherine power plant, but not the park.  Hot Springs is a National Park but there are many more nicer natural attractions in Arkansas than that.
