Canyonlands Needles June 17-20

I spent 3 days backpacking in Canyonlands Needles district on my way to Texas.  The first day I hiked to Chesler Park #5 and then went to Squaw Canyon #2 and spent 2 days there with the plan to hike Lost Canyon and Druid Pinnacle from there.  My boot seam split though so ended up axing the Druid Pinnacle hike. The trails and geology where pretty wild.  Trails went in and out canyons so lots of up and downs with rock scrambles and ladders.  They initially freaked me out since most hiking I had done had been pretty tame compared to this.   They also got very narrow (pack actually got stuck once).  The trails were practically empty, only saw 4 other backpackers and a few day hikers.  Not much in the way of wildlife, just birds, lizards, and chipmunks but the views are spectacular.  Definitely worth coming back and hitting the trails I missed.

Thanks BBNewb, I am headed into the Needles the first week of Nov. and those pictures just make me even more excited.   :dance:

Temps were not bad high 80's low 90's I would guess.  Only the second day I consider "hot" but nothing like BIBE.

Nice! You've had a great trip so far. I love the Needles District.

I've only done one hike there and no overnights. I hiked out to the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers.

Time to go see some images.
