Jeff,
I found cable bridges of all sorts in the PNW.  Everything from suspension narrow foot bridges to two cables about four feet apart vertically, One to hold and one to scoot on, to a single cable to hang from.  Many took some gritting of my teeth to cross.

I've also backpacked the Middle Fork of the Salmon...drawn there by the hot springs.  That section of Idaho has more hot springs than ANYWHERE in the Americas.  There are lots of riverside pools that get heavy use during the rafting season.  If you stay away from the river corridors, you'll find the wilderness solitude you're looking for.  But the rivers can be downright bustling with people in early summer.
Been to 36 countries and all 7 continents.  BiBe is still my favorite place on Earth.

Thanks Ben, and everyone else who has replied.

My eye is turning toward the Sawtooths -- a little better access, better exit routes if something goes wrong, and a better shot at a resupply (or cache).
