Last time I was in Garner, there was a Texan in the White house, and he wasn't named Bush.  Might be time for another visit.

My first visit to Garner SP couldn't have been more opposite than that of Musey's.  I went on a three night mid-July weekend with my 4 kids aged between 3 and 9 at the time.  It was very hot, and the kids were unhappy for most of the trip - not to mention the Mama.  The park was filled to the brim with party animals, some of which drank themselves into yelling and fighting into the late hours of the night.  On the second day, our 8 person tent and most of our belongings got soaked from a very powerful rainstorm that passed through.  We decided to skip the third night...

I will say that the highlight was the Frio River.  It was cold, refreshing, and very scenic.  

After reading Musey's nice experience, and now that my kids are all grown up and out of the house, I wouldn't mind to go and create a different memory about Garner. Maybe pretty soon. I think the mid-week visit has to be the element that makes the biggest difference.

You planned it right.  Don't even think about going there in summer or on spring or fall weekends.  There's more people in that park at those times than in all of Wimberley on Market Day.  By the way, all three of my backpacking tents would fit in that tent with room to spare!

Well, it is rather roomy and you can move around and tall people can stand up in it. You're right Al! I'll spend my $ on gas and one of those rollerpack things...  :rolling:

Yikes! 53 pounds WITHOUT the batteries! Granted it seems to walk for you so maybe 70+ pounds feels like....50 pounds....plus the weight of whatever else you're gonna carry.

I think I'll just find a sherpa to carry my pack.  :eusa_whistle: Probably cheaper anyway.  :icon_biggrin:
