FP -I have been checking out the Chicago Lakes hike.  Looks sweet and the camping is free.  That, and the hopefully smaller crowds, are pushing me away from RMNP.  Arapaho NF is beginning to call.

AiS-very nice

If I do RMNP, I might give Longs Peak a try.

I highly recommend Longs via the Keyhole Route.  If you go in the middle of the week in September, you will probably not encounter many others, especially on the higher more technical sections past the Keyhole.  That is one of my all-time favorite routes.  Not terribly technical (lots of scrambling), but the exposure on the last 1/2 mile of the route really makes it interesting.

Should this interest you, I wrote a report on my trip there in '03 for summitpost: http://www.summitpost.org/all-alone-on-the-keyhole/169011

Enjoy!

At the starting point for Chicago Lakes (Echo lake) there were tons of people. But from what we could see of the lakes themselves, there was not a single person down there.
Are we there yet?

Headed to RMNP myself for a week starting labor day!  Going with the inlaws, so it's just going to be day hikes and driving.  Can't wait!!!
