Glacier National Park 06/28/12 - 07/05/12
« on: July 09, 2012, 01:04:27 PM »
The wife and I made another trip up to Glacier National Park last week.
Due to poor weather conditions we were not able to hike as much as we wanted. The Hidden lake trail was snow shoe or ski's only. we would NOT have made it in regular hiking boots.

by the time we were able to do the Avalanche lake trail, it was too muddy and wet, again we were not prepared for rainy weather.
We did spend most of our time driving around.
The Sun Road was open all the way through so we were able to enjoy that.
We took a helicopter tour over the park and that was totally awesome.

For the most part we just sat on the porch of our lodge room and enjoyed the view.

We went up into Canada for 2 days 1 night to check out Waterton Lakes National Park, which is connected to the northern part of Glacier NP, which makes for an international park. We saw all the wild life up in Canada and none in Glacier.

Me and the Boy are headed up that direction next month; we're goign a little off the beaten path--doing Akamina-Kishinena Provincial Park (Akamina Ridge), Yoho N.P. (staying at the Abbot Pass Hut over Lake Oesa), and a couple of good sized hikes/climbs in Banff and Jasper.  Might get in some fishing too

Good for you two.

How were the bugs, I've heard it can get pretty buggy up there, was it still too early for them?

thanks Kevin...

I have never heard of those places steel frog, might have to look into them.

Marty, for many years I thought we had a bug (mosquito) problem here in Texas, until a few years ago our first trip up to Glacier we were viciously attached by bigger mosquito's than I have ever seen. This year they were not that bad, but they were out when it warmed up a little. mostly in the wooded areas they were bad, but not sitting on our porch.

James, beautiful photos!

A day late and dollar short but when Erle went to Alaska and experienced the mosquitoes probably similar to Glacier NP, he swore by Off lanterns while sitting around the campfire:

I use them in my backyard and they work like a champ!  Bring refills.
