Gore Range July 4

So, to escape the heat, Barry and I and some of the Fam went to Vail and did some stuff up in the Gore Range, a gorgeous range that, despite it being July 4 week, was basically deserted.  Maybe these images can help some of you beat the heat!

An introduction to the Gores was canoeing on Piney Lake; the pointy peak back there is Peak C and the big peak on the left is the high point of the Gores, Mt. Powell, at 13,500+:



Here's Deluge Lake, at about 12k; Grand Traverse Peak to the upper right:



Me on the flanks of Grand Traverse Peak, a 13er, with The Grand Traverse behind and to the right; The Grand Traverse is one of the classic Colorado traverses, and is a ridge between the two 13ers Grand Traverse Peak and North Grand Traverse; it is visible from I-70 heading east out of Vail:

That does seem refreshing...please tell me there were no annoying bugs as you paddled there.
OK, now tell me the truth?

There were black flies on the trail, so we went with the canoe and no bugs!
