Hill Country Swimming Hole
« on: May 04, 2010, 11:59:39 AM »
Heading home after leaving my mother’s place last Monday I had budgeted a couple of hours to slide by and old swimming hole. I got there hoping I’d be the only one there. Luck was with me and I was for about 30 minutes. It had been a long time since I’d been to Hamilton Pool. On the walk back up the hill to the parking area I passed a half dozen or so younger people heading down. The air was heavy with a sweet acrid odor of burning…. Well, I think we can all guess what was burned.

Beautiful pics of Hamilton.  Only reason I miss living there, the watering holes.

I first went to Hamilton Pool in the late 50's when I entered UT. In the early '80's I owned a place near Dripping Springs and returned often to the pool. Although I lived mostly in Houston my heart has always been in the Hill Country.

I have to admit, moving to Austin from Dallas was one of the best things I have ever done.  I really love the proximity to the Hill Country, and if the traffic wasn't so horrible, I would be living in the Hill Country instead of nearby.

Hamilton Pool.

Was this the place also called 'Edge Falls' or is that somewhere else?

I only go back around 40 years. It's on Hamilton Pool Rd.  The Reimers' owned it for many years before the government done took it even though the public had access to it for many years before.  A well known swimming hole.  Might have been insurance related.

I've never heard it called Edge Falls and I've been knowing about the pool since we moved to the area in '74.

Edge Falls is near Leon Springs, flows into the Guadalupe nearby. Privately owned by a......hole's that prohibit visitation, even for photos.
Well, I can certainly see why the owners would want to keep it pristine. I spent the better part of my youth in Barton Creek and got to witness what happens to such places when they are "well loved".

Edge Falls is near Leon Springs, flows into the Guadalupe nearby. Now privately owned,   prohibited visitation, even for photos.

I see that it was Hamilton Pool I went to several times in the 70s. I was told back then it was Edge Falls.  Obviously not. Thanks.

Nice pictures!  I wish I was there right now.  Its 100 degrees here on Terlingua Ranch, the wind is blowing like crazy with 12% humidity.  Its like being in a dryer.   :eusa_boohoo:
