hueco tanks state park
« on: April 06, 2009, 09:28:33 PM »
I took my son and we tagged along with my mother to hueco tanks state park on sunday, i did not realize it is almost 4 hours from odessa but despite all the driving it was really great. Lots of pictographs and a very slow paced tour but great never the less.

we were in the bouldering epicenter of the country so we bouldered if that is how you say

my son was rooting for me....i was terrified

i think i did ok for my first rock climbing experience, we saw some guys that were mind blowing.

My son loved it, he really enjoyed the tour which surprised me because i thought we were moving at a snails pace and was honestly bored out of my mind, not because of the lack of neat things to see, but by the tour giude's stories. oh well the kid loved it, which was the goal. Now when we started rock climbing i had a wonderful time, i would love to do it again although i would rather go backpacking than climb but maybe i can put a day aside in big bend to rock climb.

Anybody know any good spots for "bouldering" in the bend? I was thinking grapevine hills, or tuff canyon..maybe dog canyon...any thoughts anyone?

Hueco Tanks is a very special place. I would head north for more bouldering.
