Nueces River Trip
« on: November 14, 2007, 09:39:46 PM »
This was the weekend I was supposed to go to BIBE...but a friend of mine made me an offer that I could not refuse.

He is in the process of writing a book on Texas Rivers, and he and a group of guys were heading out to the upper Nueces for a kayaking and fishing trip.

We stayed just south of Camp Wood at a campground called The Big Oak...great time.

You can read a blog my friend wrote and see some pics here:  (I wish I could write that well!)

I have said on this board before that I love traveling the back roads of TX (last Oct. I completed every county in the state)...and I am glad that my friend also enjoys taking the long way home.  So, we criss-crossed Real County, then cut across FM 337 to Medina...then through Centerpoint, Blanco and, ultimately, back to Austin.

It took us about 7 hours to get from Camp Wood to Austin...which is just about right, since most people can do it in half that time.

Cool!  Thanks for posting.  I know that when we have crossed the Nueces River on Hwy 90, it does look different than the Nueces you see coming into Corpus...
