Off to New Zealand!
« on: October 01, 2009, 11:12:39 AM »
In a desperate attempt to reach 500 posts before heading out, I'll post this itinerary for our New Zealand trip.

http://trtlrock.blogspot.com/

Since most of our hiking 'expeditions' have been in BiBe, it will be jarring to see so much green. And water.

But boy-oh-boy will it be nice not to have to carry any freakin' water.  Woo-hoo!

The key, I've discovered, is to be fiscally irresponsible. I am, apparently, somewhat talented in that area.  :eusa_whistle:

I hope to check in here 'n' there, and I'll try to post some pics from the closest thing NZ has to a desert:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rangipo_Desert

Cool!

On the off chance you see us hitchhiking, you better pick us up  :icon_wink:

How are you dealing with your bikes? Renting them in NZ? Buying there & then selling before you go?

Shipping yours over somehow?!?  :icon_eek:

Been there twice.  Would go again in a heartbeat.  Every inch of New Zealand is beautiful, and not as cluttered up with people as much of the U.S. is these days.  You'll see lots of green.  If you do any camping on the west coast of the South Island, you'll be ready for Big Bend desert when you get back.  On my first trip there, I think it rained something like 17 of 18 days.  And I'm not talking a light sprinkle.  Imagine the Rocky Mountains (with much more snow), mile-deep fjords, glaciers that almost reach sea level, and a temperate rain forest.  That's the west coast of the South Island.

Definitely will.  If you're carrying helmets  :icon_lol:

We are renting since it's a quick two week trip.

Enjoy!
