Organ Mountains TR
« on: October 12, 2011, 09:11:49 AM »
I can't figure out how to link FB pics on here, so I will just give yopu a link to a TR I did on killerfrogs for our Organ Mountains (and Truchas) trip this past weekend.  I LOVE the Organs, and definitely will return, hopefully soon.

I think it is very difficult or next to impossible to do that. What REALLY  works, proven in many cases, is to upload your pictures to an online album site, then link those pictures to FB, Gooogle+, this site, a Blog or anywhere you want.

Online Album sites, at least in y perspective are the best to host pictures for internet purposes.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

Man, seeing this thread brings back memories.  Back in the mid seventies, as a teenager, I spend many a day and some nights exploring the Organs from the East side.  My family was stationed at White Sands Missile Range which is situated right at the base of the mountains, absolutely wonderful place to grow up.  I hiked, backpacked and climbed in places that were/are off limits to most people due to the boundaries of the military base.  I saw my first and only mountain lion up in the Organs near what I call Sugarloaf Peak.  I could go on and on, beautiful place.  Aguirre Spring Rec Area is a good basecamp for anyone wanting to explore the eastern side of the mountains if anyone is interested.

I'd like to go back and get up Organ Needle, which doesn't look too hard.  There appears to be a class 3 route up the Wedge, which I'd also like to do.  Then also Sugarloaf, Organ Mountain, Aguirre Springs to Baylor Pass, etc.  Lots of great looking stuff there.

Picacho on here turned me on to the Organs.  He also linked to a site with fairly extensive routes there:

Steelfrog, THANKS for the link, this info will come in handy when hopefully I can return to the Organs in the near future!  Sugarloaf needs to definitely be on your bucket list.

Love the picture from the Pecos Wilderness and the new snow.  The colors in the treeline are beautiful.  What trail (s) did you hike to approach the Truchas?  Research for my planned hike next summer!!

Trail 25 out of Jack's Creek; then 257; then 251 from Pecos Baldy Lake across Trailriders Wall.

Meta  terrific guy, university prof who lives in Santa Fe.  He suggested that the quickest and a very scenic approach into the Truchas is via San Leonardo Lake and then scramble up onto the ridge.

I've been looking at your route if approaching from the south, and also Trail 25, west fork Rio Santa Barbara from the north.  I like that there are so many options and connecting trails with access to water.
