Paradise Found
« on: August 26, 2009, 10:05:41 PM »
The seven of us took a trip last week up to the small town in Idaho where we will be moving in about six months. We got to do some camping, hiking, creek playing, huckleberry picking, etc (as well as some of the more mundane tasks such as house hunting). It's really a fantastic area and I've posted just a few pics.

City limits- The town is about 3100 folks and located on a prairie sanwiched between the Salmon River and the South Fork of the Clearwater. It is located in Idaho County which is a little larger than the state of Massachusetts (8,503 square miles). The county has a population density of about 2 per square mile.

Salmon River Breaks- About 6 miles south of town on Hwy 95 you encounter this scene as the land falls away to the Salmon River. This area drains the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness.

South Fork of the Clearwater- This picture is from Hwy 13 about the same distance north of town. The river drains out of the Nez Perce National Forest.

About five miles due east of town is the western border of the 2.2 million acre Nez Perce National Forest.

This is just a prairie dog I got a picture of. I just thought it came out pretty neat.

This was an area of the coutry completely unknown to us a year ago and one which we are looking forward to exploring. Local history consists of the Nez Perce War and the Lewis and Clark expedition as well as the usual gold mining, etc.

Doc,
That is the best part of the Pacific Northwest in my opinion.  Just west of there at Richland, Wa is where I spent 2002 to 2007 working.  Every weekend I could I ran around.  Idaho was my favorite place to play.  However in the winter in a lot of parts of Idaho a snowmobile is the only way around.  Don't miss the Route of the Hiawatha bike path.  It was a blast.  Idaho was lots of very nice folks.  Hells Canyon near there is undescribable.  You just have to experience it.  You have chosen well.  The colleges in Boise are very good. I am excited for you!!!!
