Sabinal River & The Milky Way
« on: August 10, 2009, 08:49:31 AM »
My family and I spent 4 nights in a rented cabin near the Sabinal River last month. There's not much to report, except that we ate, slept, ate, swam, ate, and generally had a very good time.

Did I mention that we ate? I think I'm still stuffed from that trip.

Star trails (45 minute exposure)

The river wasn't flowing in the section near us. But there was a deep pool of somewhat clear, green water in the river channel, and we had a blast jumping into it from a rope swing.

The water level was down about two feet from where it normally is. The river section just downstream from our area was dry, so I hiked down it just a bit and found a shallow section of water that was flowing.

Our family (parents, siblings, etc.) have been getting together every summer since 1972. We've stayed in different places on the Comal River and also the Frio over the years. This was our first visit to the Sabinal River.

I love the star shot the person in the foreground. It gives a very unique twist to the shot. Would you mind sharing your exposure data on it?

Same question as Mountaindocdaddy.
Visiting BB since 1966, nothing like being lost and finding heaven.

Great stuff TJ! I love the star pics...of course. Amazing what modern cameras can capture in such a short time. It used to take 15-20 minutes on pushed Ektachrome to get anywhere close to what you record in under 30 seconds.

I really like the B&W pic of the cypress roots too!

Wow!  Fantabulous.  I lived in Uvalde for years but that was before digital cameras and I wasn't that much into film photography at the time.  To think of all the photo ops I missed.
