BACKPACKING DAY 9: CRAMER DIVIDE TO ALPINE LAKE

This was the day "backpacking fatigue" set in, and hordes of flies too.

BACKPACKING DAY 10: ALPINE LAKE TO BARON CREEK

Unsure if I could finish the route as planned, I faced an immediate 900 foot gain, then a 3,600 foot loss.

I should. Since I've entered the digital age, I've hardly printed a single photo.  :icon_cry:

The backpacking portion of the trip ended anticlimactically with a short hike down from the confluence of Baron Creek and its north fork to Grandjean. A few photos:

Overall, I stayed in 17 campsites over 18 nights -- the only repeat was the North Rim of the Grand Canyon -- covering six states.

Highlights:

Glen Canyon

Between Vernon and Edna Lakes in the Sawtooths

Imogene Lake in the Sawtooths

Alpine Lake in the Sawtooths

North Rim Campground in Grand Canyon NP

How was the North rim CG? We stayed there in October 2006 before the North Rim fire. We loved it then, golden aspen with few other visitors. I wass under the impression that some of the campground burned in the fires a few years ago.

In fact, there had been a fire on the North Rim just a couple of weeks before I got there (the Aspen fire):

It shut down the main road, which was damaged and being repaired when I was there, and there were still pockets of smoldering debris scattered around.

As for the CG, I didn't notice any significant burn damage, but I definitely didn't notice any aspen trees. To me, it looked like a typical "industrial" campground in a big popular national park, and it was fairly crowded. The photo of my campsite shown in a previous post was taken to minimize the number of neighbors in the shot.

Coming soon. And I owe Homero a gear list.

I wouldn't mind seeing that gear list too.

What an awesome trip...
