Never been there but I'll guess somewhere in the Guad's?

That's a good guess.

I'll throw a photo up just for fun.  And where is this?

That's McKittrick in the background to the right!

Ms. Muse, Texas Aggie Hiker, and Roy, you're all correct.  Gold stars all around!  It's the view across the Bowl in the Guadalupes from high on the Hunter Peak slopes.  It can be surprisingly lush and green up there in later summer during the rainy season.  Most people can't believe that photo was taken in Texas.  Except that you have to carry all your water up there (painful), it's a great place for summer hikes in Texas.

Okay, just confiuse everyone again, I'll post two shots from another Texas spot.  Where is it???

Okay, I kind of screwed that one up, by forgetting to change the file name.  And the other shot didn't post correctly, so here it is.

Both pics from same ranch.  (I cheated again).
Do they offer tours to us tourons/amateur photogs, or do you have to be LP to get in?  I've  wondered what it looked like in there.

I am staggered (flabbergasted?) at the color in these photos. I just have to ask: anything you did that was out of the ordinary to capture these colors? PS embellishment? "Vivid" setting on camera? Special filters? Special camera?

Or was it just little 'ole you?

PS -- don't have a clue where these shots are from...

I'm not gonna count this as a right answer;  I definitely cheated.  Ya'll have fun guessing at least a day or two.

So why does the color look so good?  Well, it's my job.  I know, I know, that's a smartaleck answer.

Both photos were taken with either Velvia 50 or Ektachrome E100VS 4x5 film.  I'd have to look it up to be sure and I'm too lazy to do so.  Regardless, both are great, very saturated films.  After scanning the film I may have boosted the saturation a little in Photoshop, but typically not more than a few points.

The best photos come from being at the right place at the right time (you should see all my photos when I wasn't at the right place at the right time!).  The first shot was taken after a heavy rain, so the sandstone was wet which makes it look a little more saturated.  In the second photo it was late afternoon light with very clear air.  Haze kills those kids of shots.  I also used a polarizer on the second to darken the sky some.  But you have to be careful.  I've seen too many uses of a polarizer where the sky was almost black or was uneven in tone across the frame.

As for where it is???  It's in Texas and it's publicly accessible.  And no peeking at the metadata!

Thanks for this information - they are stunning shots. Well done.

Don't know the name of the formation, but both pics appear to be from Red Rock Ranch near Van Horn.
