I might have guessed the state wrong as it's right on the border with Colorado.

No, but you couldn't get any closer and still miss. When you "cross the street" {Hwy 70} the name changes to the Organ Mountains, which I understand are geologically different thus the name change. The picture was taken from the Aguirre Springs area (BLM) and is a beautiful location although occasionally fly intense when the winds are low. The off trail hike up Baylor Peak offers great views in multiple directions.
