Wichita Mountains, My Home Away From Home
« on: June 27, 2012, 03:34:33 PM »
This place is my small piece of sanity in a crazy world.  With my camera and daypack , I spend many an hour hiking the game trails in search of my favorite critter, the Rocky Mountain Elk. Some shots I've taken over the last few weeks.

The ice storm 3 years ago killed a lot of our mature bulls.  They were exhausted from the rut and their older wore out teeth couldn't chew through the ice encrusted vegetation. Finally starting to see some of the younger bulls fill out and get some size on them.  Took this where West cache Creek dumps into French Lake.

This smaller bull was taking his time crossing the creek.

Two bulls near Elk Mountain.

A closeup of the bigger bull.

Three more I saw behind the fence.
Having decent gear is nice, but wildlife photography is knowing your subject and getting lucky, and I love getting lucky.
