Yellowstone in winter.
« on: December 03, 2011, 08:52:30 PM »
Getting ready to make a photo shoot trip to Yellowstone in mid-February!  We will have four from Texas and three from Washington on the trip.  We plan to meet in West Yellowstone on Feb. 9.  We will stay at a motel in West Yellowstone and take snow mobile trips into the park for three days and a snow mobile trip outside the park for one day.  This is a radical change for a desert rat since we expect temps could be -20F!  I've had to get layers and layers of cold weather clothing.  Fortunately you can rent outer gear with the snowmobile....boots, helmet, goggles, gloves, and outer suit.  New problems arise when photographing in these conditions.  Batteries have to be kept warm with chemical hand warmers or they'll go dead quickly.  When bringing the camera and lenses indoors after the shoot, they must be sealed in plastic bags to prevent condensation when they warm up.
I complained all summer about the heat.  I think this trip will average it out!
Stay tuned for a trip report in late February,  if I don't freeze to death!
