Texas is depressed.  We Aggies are happy to have done our part . . . it's been an increbibly close season for the Ags but better than expected, kind of like Oklahoma but we just didn't get there.

Congratulations!

sorry it took so long to reply, i was busy puking in my hat.

it is one thing to lose games to equal -or superior- talent; but, k state?...and a&m?  good lord!

then i realize that two weeks worth of ineptitude allows oklahoma into the game?...excuse me - i think it's coming up again.

thank goodness i was on the rim friday and didn't have to watch any of that debacle on tv.

who on earth could i possibly root for in a game between ou and nebraska?  oh!  i know:  a double forfeit.

present company excluded, of course.

Football and other unimportant matters...

With all the UT fans out there I just had to rub it in a bit.  My son is a junior at OU.

There is tremendous parity in Big-12 football.  If Colt McCoy is not hurt Texas wins the conference period.  No team can afford to lose its star player.  When OU had an experienced QB and Vince Young was a frosh/soph OU won.  When OU had Rhett Bomar and Young was experienced the tables turned.

The conference has 9 bowl eligible teams. Just hope they all do well, and enjoy the holidays!
Funny... I have a story about that...

Actually I think they are rolling on the floor laughing all the way to the bank.

I got to the Gage from the Hot Springs just in time to see Boise State score its first touchdown.  People can belittle the "mid-major" conferences all they want, but if you make mistakes... (OU 4 turnovers, before Boise committed its first) you will get your butt whipped!  The TCU's, Boise State's, Louisville's, etc. are good but not great programs.

The Big 12 overall was weak this bowl season.  3 - 5 with Texas winning a terrible game against a weak Iowa team, OSU beating a mediocre Alabama... There was not a single game to be proud of.

The conference with the most to brag about... 4-0 Big East, with some decent wins and a legimate question as to why they didn't get some better match-ups.

Big losers:  Big-10  at 2 - 4 (with a good chance for Ohio State to redeem the conference) and Conference USA at 0-4 with one game left, and no chance of redemption this year!

At least the OU - BSU game was one of the most exciting and entertaining of the year!
Funny... I have a story about that...

Well, Texas Tech at least had a pretty good fourth quarter. :)  Other than that, "not choking" was the best any of the Big 12 teams accomplished.

The TCU's, Boise State's, Louisville's, etc. are good but not great programs.

Well, that's fine.

Oklahoma, the great football program from the great conference of the Big XII, doesn't recruit many of the athletes that the likes of Boise State and TCU recruit (I'll leave Louisville off, since they're in one of the Big Boy conferences now), including a running back from Waco named LaDainian Tomlinson, who is today the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player.

And, just so the facts don't get in the way of a good story, I would also point out that the good but not great TCU had more wins over ranked non-conference opponents this season than the ENTIRE BIG TWELVE.

Please, please, please Big Boy conference schools, keep thinking our little programs are not worthy of competing against you.

If you're in Austin on September 8, the Horned Frogs are coming to play the Longhorns, and we've won five straight against Big XII schools, including a win in Norman last season over the mighty Big XII champions of this season, who've had some recent difficulties beating ranked non-BCS conference schools.

TCU and other little schools...
« Reply #11 on: January 04, 2007, 02:28:31 PM »
I happen to be quite a proponent of little schools.  They can and sometimes do excel for several reasons. (Also, as a pastor in the Christian Church, TCU is at the top of my list of schools to support in every endeavor!)

Perhaps foremost is the fact that big school scouts are LAZY.  They recruit the players that everyone says are good, because they have good stats on good teams in states that play good football.  Obviously you find some good players that way.

What about good players who play on bad teams, have a bad coach, live in the wrong state, etc. etc.  Many of the great players of all time were overlooked in the recruiting process.  From LaDanian T. to Barry Sanders to Jerry Rice the true greats often were not recruited by USC, ND, Mich, Ohio State, OU, Bama etc.

My daughter will probably be at TCU in two and a half years and I plan to make as many games as I can!
Funny... I have a story about that...
