Big Spring State Park
« on: February 19, 2008, 07:06:28 PM »
I was in Big Spring last Thursday for a funeral so I went and checked out the State Park there.  It's about 385 acres if I remember correctly and has a nice nature trail and some great picnic areas.  It used to have a prairie dog town that was a big attraction but the foxes ate all the prairie dogs.  They brought more in but the foxes ate those too.   :icon_rolleyes:

I wandered around the ranger station and picked up a pamphlet that was about Big Bend.  I didn't read it until I got home.  Turns out it was published by National Park Concessions and was advertising the Basin Lodge.  They listed room prices from $50 to $60.  The pics were good but outdated.  They advertised the restaurant as being open all day and prices for breakfast from $2 to $5.   I couldn't help wondering how long those pamphlet had been there.  :icon_eek:

That thing must be old!!!

I paid $111.00 for a room at the last minute last fall. And I sure paid a lot more than that for meals. Not that I'm complaining...it really does cost a lot to get things out there to the boonies of BB. Mostly I pass on the lodge and meals but sometimes it's nice to partake.

I can't remember when Forever Resorts took over for National Park Concessions but it has been several years.  I wondered how long those pamphlets had been there at the State Park.  The prices are sure different now!
