Glad they were able to find the money to upgrade the place.  It's a very nice state park.

I've stayed at the Indian Lodge a couple of times post renovation.  Really really enjoyed it.

And I was toying with the idea of going there that next weekend! The fort historic site has some decent hikes too, so I could do those.  Or I just wait until the first open weekend at Livermore next year (which is something I still haven't done).

Labor Day weekend is a great time for the Davis Mountains since it will be monsoon season and the flowers in late summer bloom! If you are lucky there will be daily light showers followed by a clearing off and sunshine.  :D

Good news, West Texas campers and hikers.

Davis Mountains State Park will reopen Dec. 20, well ahead of schedule.

Campgrounds, trails and the interpretive center at the popular 2,700-acre Fort Davis park closed Sept. 3 for improvements. Crews upgraded the plumbing and utility systems, expanded trails and finished construction of a new bird viewing area.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials expected the work to take six months, but it took just four.
The park’s Indian Lodge and Black Bear Restaurant , which remained open during the renovation, will close for maintenance from Jan. 27 to Feb. 6.

The Civilian Conservation Corps developed the park and its Indian Lodge between 1933 and 1935,  are located 4 miles north of Fort Davis on State Highway 18 North. For more information go to http://tinyurl.com/kfuk676.

Reservations for rooms and campsites at the park can be made online or by calling (512) 389-8900.
