Thanks

I don't know about Verizon, but AT&T's coverage viewer shows no coverage for the park area. Doesn't mean there isn't coverage, but I'd be surprised if there was...

I keep a record of coverage in lots of places during my travels.  It says that I had no cell or internet when I was there last year.  My system is sprint.  Being down in the canyon you will likely not get signal.

Google turned up several hits on the lack of coverage out there.

Cell Phones work only at top of the ridge. No cell phone coverage available in the valleys.

You'd probably need a satellite phone for guaranteed coverage.  Monthly fees have come way down on satellite phones, plus you can rent them as well.

We were at Lost Maples last September.  No AT&T service either.  As I recall, we did have service on the road between Utopia and Vanderpool which is near the park...

Everyone,
Thanks for the info. I've got a reservation there in a couple weeks AND I've got a new grandson on the way that's due about that same time.  I'd be in big trouble if they couldn't find me when the time came.  I might just have to re-schedule.

Thanks again.

If you make it out there, be sure to take in Mystic Canyon.  You can get to it from the East or West trail there in the park.  Well worth it.

IMHO the best hike is to go in from the west trail and come out by the Ponds. The mountain laurel should be in bloom. I have TMobile and you can get calls/texts in and out from high atop the overlook. Of course that's a heck of a hike just to use a phone! They can call the park direct to leave you a msg but you'd have to check in at the office often as they probably won't come to you unless its an emergency call.

Agree...did that last September with my son.  Great hike.
