Mount Livermore Summit Attempt
« on: April 19, 2010, 05:59:19 PM »
Saturday I made a summit attempt on Mount Livermore. I didn’t make it all the way to the top due to a thunderstorm. I did make it pretty darn close though. I was going to push on even in the rain when lightning struck the radio towers on the summit. It was pretty scary and I decided I would come back and try again another time. You can read my full report on my Blog MyLifeOutdoors.

Here are a few images from the trip...enjoy:

I've been emailing back and forth with Chris and am planning on packing in and camping the open weekend in mid-June. My goal is to summit Baldy as well and and hopefully see where the Livermore Cache was found. The TNC website states there are a lot of water sources. I'm assuming they were talking about windmill tanks. Realizing you were only there a short while did you take note of water resources? BTW, awesome photos!  :eusa_dance:

There where no water sources along the Limpia Chute Trail, And only puddles among the water crossings. One crossing did look to have some flow but that may have only been from the rain we got the night before. It was fairly close to the McIvor visitor center and may not be very helpful when backpacking. Looking at USGS map of the area I notice several Springs on the map. I don't know if any of these springs are flowing. I was under the impression the area was dry apart from recent rain. You might ask Chris...Let me know as well. I am interested in doing some backpacking there as well.

I heard the clap of thunder, We were almost to "Cat Tank" when that bolt of lightning struck. Like you, our hiking ended for the day and we headed for lower ground.

We went back recently and I did notice several water sources. I asked Chris Pipes about them and he said they are usually dry. There is only water in them now due to an unusually large amount of snow fall this winter.

Here is the thread for my most recent Livermore summit trip .
