Easter Eve on Mt. Livermore
« on: April 20, 2014, 03:00:32 PM »
Saturday before Easter we were dodging thunder to get up and down Mt. Livermore, which I believe is the highest point in Texas outside the Guadalupe Mountains.  8432'  May also be the eastern-most 8000er in the continental US; I am going to research this.  Anyway, nice little jaunt; easy 2:30 up, under 1:30 down (helped out by building thunder)

The windmill and Mt Livermore in the distance:

On the Jeep trail up (there's also a well-constructed climbers trail);

Livermore (Baldy Point) from the top of the Jeep trail

Threatening skies...

Heading down Baldy Point

MacDonald Observatory telescope from 8-9 miles away

My bad; it appears Sierra Grande in NM is farther east and is just over 8700'.  But it also appears that Livermore may be the tallest in the eastern US up to Livermore, other than SG.
