Isn't Pinto Canyon over by Ruidosa & Candelaria - on the road up to Marfa?

I've seen this canyon mentioned a time or two over on the old BB chat page, usually along with the Chinati Hot Springs. Never been there but it sounds cool.

I have made a couple of trips around that area when exploring. We went down the "upper river road" for quite a long way until it got really "spooky". Last time I did that road we took the scenic route up to Marfa. It is truly an awe inspiring area with good vistas, etc. The last visit there was a notable presence of DHS Border Patrol in the area in vehicles and in fixed wing aircraft. One vehicle kinda "stopped" us and chatted, but that was it. Another vehicle in our convoy actually got tailed all the way into Marfa, but was never stopped. There are numerous "low water" crossings in that area and it is readily obvious that they are used frequently. This is also the area of the "stalled" Chinati State Park / State Natural area project.

Pinto Canyon is fantastic but it is all private land.The river road west of Candelaria is awesome as well but also on private land.Both are nice drives.The border patrol will stop you for nothing so be careful and stay legal.

The Agri. agent in Presidio said the roads were public but the land was private. He said it is possible to drive from Candelaria to Indian Hot Springs along the basic river road if you are familiar with the area. I checked the distance and it is 176 miles from Presidio to I-10 along this road. Sure would like to do that trip. I would figure about 3 days!

Yep, we started to do that road a while back, but some in our group got bored and wanted to turn around. I have always wanted to go all the way . Gives me another reason to go back and try again. I would only do it with two cars in case one breaks down. A 150 mile stroll through the desert is not my idea of fun.

Its Real but not old. My Dad and I built it last year. 4X8 Harbor Freight Trailer. Very comfy and beats tenting.

Well lets see, the trailer was $200, the ply and other wood materials were scrap or donated. $0.00, screws, wireand other electric stuff $100, windows from auto salvage $40, misc stuff $50, so about $400 spread over a year. All the kitchen equipment is camping gear I owned already,
So very affordable
