I am headed to Ruidoso next week for my sisters wedding. Should have at least 2 free days to play tourist and get some hiking in. I was thinking maybe  the Billy the Kid scenic drive one day and day hiking in Lincoln National Forest the next day. Any suggestions?

Generally the best hiking is in the White Mountain Wilderness.  Go a little above Bonita Lake and do a loop up to the Crest up one canyon, such as Argentina Canyon, and back down another.  It's very lush forest and most of the creeks are permanent.  Or go up to Ski Apache and hike some of the trails that start there and lead into the wilderness.
